Designing a great looking leaflet or flyer that stands out from the crowd takes some creative imagination, especially if you want to move away from a bog-standard leaflet template based approach and look at creative layouts. A lot of businesses these days use leaflet templates to try and save  a bit of money, but what that means is that leaflets and flyers can look the same – as everyone is using the same templates!

Pamphlet design and folded leaflets

A pamphlet is another name for a leaflet or flyer, or even a booklet that doesn’t have any binding. Like a flyer, a pamphlet can be just a single piece of paper, with a design printed on a single side or double-sided, or it can be folded in half or in thirds. Typical pamphlet sizes are A4, A5 or A6 and these can be folded.

Even in the digital age a pamphlet is a really effective way of promoting a business or service, and indeed because a lot of marketing tends to be done online these days – when you are given a pamphlet/leaflet/flyer in person, one lands through your letterbox, or you see one on display – the pamphlet design can really capture your attention and make you want to read it.

If you haven’t read this blog, take the time to have a read of some posts which will share some design and print tips that will really help your pamphlet design stand out from the crowd. You will even find some of the best creative design samples to inspire your pamphlet design, and a few are below!

Creating impact with your leaflet designs & flyers

The design style, or ‘look & feel’ of your flyers is what really helps your flyer create visual impact and make potential customers pick it up. You can have an amazing business, service or product to promote, and your text content may be crafted to perfection – but if your flyer doesn’t look great from a stylistic point of view – then not many potential customers are going to pick it up and actually read your leaflet!

Below you can see some creative samples of leaflet / flyer designs which have a strong sense of visual impact and utilise strong colours, bold graphics, distinctive styles and strong typography/fonts. The style of a flyer should be tailored to your target audience, and their are quite a few different styles below – but each one is designed to quickly get attention and make people want to pick it up and read.

I’ve designed a lot of leaflets for various industries over the years, and one industry I specialise in as the Leaflet Guru is designing leaflets and marketing materials for Dentists & Dental Practices all over the UK. I think to work in this area – you need a really good understanding of the Dental industry and need to understand that there is a certain image/message that needs to be conveyed for all Dentists.

So below are my 5 tips on designing effective leaflets & marketing materials for Dentists:

Teeth, teeth, teeth! First and foremost all dental flyers must immediately convey nice teeth! It may sound obvious – but everyone who goes to a dentist aspires to have better teeth – so imagery is key here in getting across the professionalism of a dental practice. I’m told by my client , Bourbon Street Dental Care, that this leaflet was very effective in getting new customers.

AAAIDA – My proven leaflet design marketing formula

AIDA is a popular acronym used in marketing and advertising that describes a common list of events that may occur when a consumer engages with some marketing collateral. My personal spin on it uses 3 A’s.
